Scouts move in at Cwmbran

More than 200 scouts showed shoppers at Cwmbran just what the local association has to offer at a special event in the town.

The Scouts Awareness Day gave local groups the chance to demonstrate a wide range of activities, including a daring abseil down the side of Monmouth House.

Cwmbran Shopping Operations Manager, Ian Hopkins, said: "The abseil event proved to be a real attraction, with lots of shoppers craning their necks to see the brave volunteers coming over the edge of the building.

"And with so many other attractions in display, there really was something for everyone on the day."

Other displays included raft building, pioneering, outdoor living, tent pitching and woggle making demonstrations.

"We were delighted to see so many people enjoying the day, and we were proud to host such an important community event," said Ian.

Guests of honour on the day include the Mayor and Mayoress of Torfaen, and the UK Scout Commissioner Wayne Bulpitt.

As well as the exciting activities available, two local scouts - Kieron Spree and Richard Parry - also received their Queen's Scout Awards in a special presentation.

Ian said: "Occasions like the scouts day, and the planned tourism and sustainability events which will be held in the next few months, are all part of our commitment to the local community.

"They are examples of the way we are working hard to support local organisations and to reinforce Cwmbran Shopping's position at the heart of the town."
