History of Cwmbran
Cwmbran Development Corporation was established in 1949 to oversee the building of this new town. Construction began in 1951.
The central retail area was started in 1959, followed by the town's only large residential tower block, completed in 1967.
Cwmbran Development Corporation was disbanded when the final residential estates were completed in the 1980s, and the 50 acre town centre—bounded by Caradoc, Glyndwr, Tudor and Llywelyn Roads—moved into private ownership, and was purchased by the Ladbroke organisation.
Prudential Property Investment Managers (PRUPIM) bought Cwmbran Shopping in 1994, and with a heavy investment—over £35 million—have transformed the centre into today’s bright, upbeat destination at the heart of the community.
